Fasting + Consecration
Fasting is central to our ministry. The Fasting Hub provides resources, guidance, and support for those seeking spiritual growth, personal breakthroughs, and intercession for others through biblical fasting. Our goal is to restore the true purpose and power of fasting as outlined in Scripture, moving beyond modern trends and returning to the heart of consecration and surrender to the Lord.
Biblical Fasting
Biblical fasting is defined as abstaining from all food (and sometimes drink) for a set period, as an act of humility, repentance, and consecration before God.
-
Isaiah 58 outlines the heart posture God desires during a fast: humility, repentance, justice, and removing distractions or idols.
-
Isaiah 58:5 asks, “Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to humble themselves?... Will you call this a fast, an acceptable day to the Lord?”
-
Fasting is not a diet. It is a covenantal vow - a sacred time to rid ourselves of idols, thoughts, and wickedness, and to submit wholly to God (see Ecclesiastes 5:4-6).
Key Scriptures on Fasting
Joel 2:12-13 – Return to God with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
Ezra 8:21-23 – Fasting for guidance and protection.
Isaiah 58:6– Humbling the soul with fasting.
Acts 13:2-3 – Appointing leaders with prayer and fasting.
Joel 2:12-13 (NLT)
12 That is why the Lord says,
“Turn to me now, while there is time.
Give me your hearts.
Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
13 Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.
Isaiah 58:6 (NLT)
16 “No, this is the kind of fasting I want:
Free those who are wrongly imprisoned;
lighten the burden of those who work for you.
Let the oppressed go free,
and remove the chains that bind people.
Ezra 8:21-23 (NLT)
21 And there by the Ahava Canal, I gave orders for all of us to fast and humble ourselves before our God. We prayed that he would give us a safe journey and protect us, our children, and our goods as we traveled. 22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen[a] to accompany us and protect us from enemies along the way. After all, we had told the king, “Our God’s hand of protection is on all who worship him, but his fierce anger rages against those who abandon him.” 23 So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.
Acts 13:2-3 (NLT)
2 One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” 3 So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.

Why do we fast?
-
To Glorify God: Our fasting is for God’s glory, not our own (2 Corinthians 12:9-11).
-
To Seek Breakthroughs: For personal deliverance, national repentance, and intercession for others.
-
To Consecrate Ourselves: To set ourselves apart and deepen our relationship with the Lord.
5 Biblical Foundations of Fasting
Consecrated Life
-
Romans 12:1-2 - "And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.[b] 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
-
Offer yourself as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
Honor & Humility
-
Proverbs 22:4 - "True humility and fear of the Lord
lead to riches, honor, and long life." -
Humility and fear of the Lord bring true riches and life.
Pure Heart
-
Psalm 24 - " 1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
2 For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.
3 Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 Only those whose hands and hearts are pure,
who do not worship idols
and never tell lies.
5 They will receive the Lord’s blessing
and have a right relationship with God their savior.
6 Such people may seek you
and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.
7 Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
8 Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty;
the Lord, invincible in battle.
9 Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
10 Who is the King of glory?
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies—
he is the King of glory."
-
Only those with clean hands and a pure heart will see God.
Intentional Seeking of God
-
Jeremiah 29:13 - "If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me."
-
Seek God wholeheartedly and you will find Him.
Focused Repentance
-
2 Peter 3:9 -"The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."
-
Acts 2:38 - "Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
-
Acts 3:19-22 - "Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. 20 Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. 21 For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets. 22 Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people. Listen carefully to everything he tells you.’"
-
Repentance brings forgiveness, refreshing, and restoration.

How to Fast: Practical Guidelines
Biblical Fast:
-
Abstain from all food and water for the designated periods.
-
During the remaining days, follow a Daniel-style consecration (fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes-raw or cooked).
Consecration:
-
Focus on consecrating your body as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).
-
Seek God’s guidance on what to eat and how to care for your body.
Recipes:
-
Embrace a raw vegan foundation for meals during the Daniel consecration days, not as a diet, but as an act of worship and consecration. The LORD will guide and instruct you how, when, and the timing of when to eat: Nuts & Legumes during these days of consecration.
The Significance of Consecration
-
1 Corinthians 3:16-17: You are God’s temple; honor Him with your body.
-
2 Chronicles 7:11-16: God hears the prayers of those who humble and consecrate themselves.
